Separation Anxiety in Dogs

As a force-free trainer working closely with families and their dogs, I often see cases of separation anxiety — especially in apartment living where the signs are harder to ignore.

While any dog can experience distress when left alone, some breeds seem particularly sensitive.

Here are the top three breeds I’ve worked with that most often struggle with separation anxiety:

1. Cocker Spaniel - Cocker Spaniels are deeply affectionate and thrive on human connection. That bond, while beautiful, can make it hard for them to cope with alone time. They often show stress through pacing, whining, or barking.

2. Cavoodle - Cavoodles are incredibly people-oriented. Many of the Cavoodles I’ve worked with become anxious even before their person leaves, showing signs like following them from room to room or becoming clingy.

3. Toy Poodle - Toy Poodles are clever and sensitive — a combination that can make them especially prone to stress when alone. They’re quick to form strong attachments, and without support, they can develop vocalising or destructive behaviours when left behind.

How I Can Help - I specialise in helping apartment dogs on the Gold Coast feel calm, confident, and secure when their humans leave. Using only kind, force-free methods, I create personalised training plans that focus on building independence at your dog’s pace.

Whether you’re dealing with barking, destruction, toileting accidents, or just a dog that

can’t settle, there is a way forward — and I’d love to help you find it.
