Winnie is a young Cavoodle living in a Broadbeach apartment. Like many apartment pups, she faced a challenge that made day-to-day living difficult—a deep fear of the vacuum cleaner. Long before it was even switched on, the mere sight of it would trigger barking, snapping, and full-body shaking. This was more than just a mild dislike; it was a fear response that affected her comfort and well-being at home.
Through a structured program using positive reinforcement, we worked gently at Winnie’s pace, rewarding calm behaviour and building her confidence around the vacuum. With time, patience, and consistent support from her loving owners, Georgia and Eddie, Winnie began to see that the vacuum wasn’t something to fear.
Today, she can calmly be in the same room, even sitting right next to it, while the vacuum is running. While it’s still not her favourite household appliance, it no longer sends her into a panic. The transformation has been remarkable, and the photo speaks for itself: a relaxed dog who’s made peace with something that once overwhelmed her.
If you’re living in an apartment and your dog struggles with fear, noise sensitivity, or other challenges unique to city living, I’d love to help. I have a special interest in apartment dogs and understand their specific needs. Get in touch — you and your dog don’t have to face it alone.
